Everyone talks about resilience like it’s some motivational buzzword. But you don’t learn resilience from a podcast. You learn it when you’re freezing on a mountain in October, getting beat every hour, shitting in a coffee can, and listening to ‘Boots, Boots, Boots’ on a loop from the speaker above your cell.
That was my first SERE school. 2001. I was a PFC. But the truth? It wasn’t the hardest thing I ever did. Not even close. Because I grew up harder than that.
My childhood taught me how to survive. Taught me how to cope. Taught me how to laugh at pain and turn discomfort into momentum.
You’re Not Broken. You’re Untrained.
If you think you’re at your lowest, good. That’s where the real work starts. You can sit in it. Or you can use it.
Stress will break the weak. But it forges the strong. I built my coping mechanisms when I had nothing but jokes and grit. I made it through hell because I decided I wasn’t going to let it beat me.
If I can do it, anyone can. But you’ve got to stop feeling sorry for yourself and start punching back.
